The HTC Hero vs Nokia 6700 Classic bout will see the unusual comparison between two devices from totally different segment. While the HTC Hero is more upmarket and the third Android based device from HTC, the Nokia 6700 Classic comes as a 3G model in the mid-range segment of Nokia phones. The HTC hero comes with a 3.2 inches TFT touchscreen and also includes the “HTC Sense” user interface, which is extremely user-friendly. The 6700 Classic from Nokia, on the other hand is a non-touch device, but it is definitely lighter and sleeker than the Hero. It is enhanced with Class32 GPRS and EDGE which would serve better than the Class10 GPRS and EDGE found in the Hero.
The tri-band 3G network support of the Nokia 6700 Classic allows better and faster data downloading via HSDPA@10Mbps ,while the dual-band 3G network support of the HTC Hero allows HSDPA @7.2Mbps. The media player in the Hero looks more versatile to me though, and considering that it is a touch-phone with a high resolution screen, watching videos would certainly be fun. The 6700 definitely lacks the 3.5 mm audio jack and the dedicated search key that have been included in the Hero but it is more than compensated by the inclusion of a stereo FM radio in it, which the Hero misses. Although meant to cater to different sets of users, both the devices do have many features in common. Both are loaded with 5 mega pixel cameras complete with auto-focus that also allow video recording. Bluetooth and USB have been also commonly included so as to allow users to share and transfer data.
Though both the devices have built-in GPS receivers, the 6700 can hardly be used to serve sat-nav requirements. The full-sized touchscreen in the Hero will offer more towards it, I believe. The battery in the HTC Hero too appears to be more capable to me with a talk time of up to 7 hours, while the one in the Nokia 6700 Classic only supports 4 hours worth of talk time. The Hero definitely comes loaded with more features and looks more sophisticated but all this comes with a price. The Nokia 6700 Classic on the other hand can be said to offer good value for money.
